Arrow Proudly Sponsors SHU Racing Team

Sheffield Students Race Ahead with Arrow Self Drive

This year SHU Racing, the racing team of Sheffield Hallam University returned to the Formula Student competition at Silverstone with more success than in the past ten years. Arrow Self Drive were proud to sponsor the team by providing two vans from the Sheffield branch for the team to transport their purpose built car.

Formula Student (FS) is Europe’s most established educational motorsport competition for undergraduates who want hands on experience in an innovative racing team.

Run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and backed by industry and high profile engineers, the competition aims to inspire and develop enterprising and innovative young engineers. The project is extremely valued by universities and usually forms part of a degree-level project.

This year almost a 100 teams from Universities from across the globe were challenged to design and build a single-seat racing car in order to compete in static and dynamic events, demonstrating their understanding and to test the performance of the vehicle.

A team of 15 core members from Sheffield Hallam University’s engineering courses designed and manufactured a car in less than 10 months. They managed to get into the competition at Silverstone and although they passed the first few stages, they were forced to withdraw from the final endurance stage and retire their car to the pit garage until next time following technical problems.

Andrew Bell from Sheffield Hallam University said,”We are delighted with the team’s achievements and see this as a huge success. While it is dissappointing the Silverstone team shown incredible dedication and delivered a performance they can be proud of. We can only hope to build on this experience and hope to go even further next time around. Many thanks to all our Sponsors and to Arrow Self Drive for supporting our transportation needs.”
