A two day charity walk due to tour Yorkshire sports stadiums in April in memory of four year old cancer victim Holly Price is steadily gaining support and promises to be one of the most successful charity walks to take place this year in our region. Having already attracted several stage sponsors, the event has now just secured a crucial support vehicle from Arrow Self Drive in Huddersfield.
Two years ago, four year old Holly Price from the Huddersfield area lost her stoic battle with cancer, dying of a brain tumour in October 2013. Holly’s father Gareth was keen to show his appreciation to those who provided essential care and support for him and his family in their darkest hours, namely Candlelighters Children’s Cancer Charity in Leeds and Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Huddersfield.
And so, Walking with Holly, emerged. The 48 hour continuous charity walk is due to take place on April 21st, 22nd and 23rd and is being organised by Mike Wilson and Steve Wood of Redwood Events, an organisation with a proven success in organizing and running a series of high profile fund raising events.
Starting out at The Square, Candlelighters Family Support Centre in Leeds at 3pm on Friday 22nd April 2016, the walk will end on Sunday 24th at Forget Me Not in Huddersfield two days later. Two core teams of 12 walkers will steadily make their way across Yorkshire sports stadiums, visiting 18 sports stadia including the grounds of Leeds Rhinos RLFC, Leeds United FC, Hunslet Hawks RLFC, Castleford Tigers RLFC, Featherstone Rovers RLFC, Doncaster Rovers FC, Rotherham United FC, Sheffield United FC and Sheffield Wednesday FC. Other walkers will be invited to join in on any of the daytime stages. It is hoped that around 200 open walkers will participate and over £20,000 will be raised in total. All the details of the event can be found on www.redwoodevents.co.uk.
Steve Wood from Redwood Events commented on the kind donation given by Arrow Self Drive, “The minibus is an essential element in the event and we are thankful to Amanda and the guys at Arrow Self Drive in Huddersfield for their amazingly kind donation. This means we can be comfortable now that our team can be supported throughout the 150 mile journey without having to use 3 or 4 private cars. This will make a huge difference”
Amanda Crowther, Marketing Executive from Arrow Self Drive, said, “We are honoured to be supporting this incredible charity walk in memory of Holly Price. As Yorkshire’s largest independent vehicle hire company with headquarters in Huddersfield, Forget Me Not has been one of our chosen charities for some time. This event is yet another opportunity for us to demonstrate our policy of “Giving back to Yorkshire”, our way of proving our commitment to our local community and of promoting our values as a family run business. We wish the whole team every success and hope that the entire event makes the Price family very proud.”
